Hindi TV Serial - Sasural Simar Ka - Getting Jhumki to overcome all doubts

The serial is correctly following the pattern of many movies. There was a need for the bahu of the family who had died, and her death causes the family property and family business to go over to the villains. This causes the hero and heroine (who is also the sister of the bahu) to suddenly come across a girl who looks like the dead bahu. And of course, this new girl is from a totally new environment and different culture, so there are lots of chances of slip-ups, which also ensures that the serial will have a lot of chances to show a lot of drama.
So, Simar and Prem had managed to persuade Jhumki to come to the Bhardwarj family house to help all of them, and finally she agreed to do so, and also set some conditions. It was a challenge for Jhumki to learn all about Roli, about the family that she is going to live in, and about her relationships; all of this was something that Simar was trying to push into her and it is not easy for somebody to suddenly forget their basic culture, and remember everything that they were told to remember and do.
This was a big blow to the plans of Veeru and Khushi; for them, it was the death of Roli that caused all of this property to back to their name, and if Roli is living, then they have no claim on anything. So, they cannot believe that Roli is alive, and it is a bit difficult overall once you have known that somebody has died to believe that the person has come back to life, even further since this will mean that their plans are all blown out of the water. Towards this end, both Veeru and Khushi decide that they will not move out of the house although Siddharth and Prem wants to kick them out of the house - it is Mataji who stops them; and this is probably one of the first times that one of the children raised any objections to what Mataji said. They said that she keeps on stopping any action against Veeru and Khushi, and all of this can cause problems.
The rest of the family does not know that Roli is not back, instead they also believe that Roli has come back. The truth about Roli / Jhumki is known only to Prem and Simar, and for some reason, they are not telling the rest of the family about this. This is causing problems, since if Roli is back, then there is no reason for her not to resume her relationship with Sid. After all, there were such a number of problems earlier relating to Naina and others, and it is time for them to resume this relationship and have a normal husband / wife relation. However, Simar is trying hard to prevent this, since she knows that this is not Roli.
Now, there will be more problems since there were certain ways that Roli did things, and Jhumki is certainly not going to do things the same way, especially at times of pressure.

Hindi TV Serial - Rehna Hai Teri Palkon ki Chaaon Mein - Karan back to the living

In Rehna Hai Teri Palkon ki Chaaon Mein on Imagine TV, the long awaited return has happened, and this is the return of Karan to the serial. All of you know that when a character dies on a Hindi serial, and the body is not found, then there is a good chance that the person is not dead and will come back at an opportune time. And so it was in the case of Karan, who died when he was on a honeymoon with Suman (and for which she was treated very badly in the house).
Over a period of time, Suman, with her good nature and loving personality was able to make a mark for herself, and Karthik anyhow was always in love with her (or atleast had a lot of respect and affection for her). However, Nandini also loved Karthik and played a number of tricks to try and get Suman out of the way so that she could get Karthik for herself. In between, Karthik realized that Nandini was responsible for a stage when Suman was abducted, but then he still married her.
However, this marriage was not meant to last, and soon the household realized that a proper relationship could only exist between Karthik and Suman, and the marriage between Karthik and Nandini was not meant to last, and talk of a divorce happen, and Nandini also signs the divorce papers.
But, this was done with a motive. Nandini had discovered that Karan had not died, but was indeed in a coma condition in a hospital, with no identification; and she brought him home with the claim that he was her brother (with the idea being that she would bring him forward to break the impending relationship between Suman and Karthik). And Karan, who is in a coma, does indeed start reacting when Suman comes close, with Nandini trying to ensure that he gets well fast enough that she can use him to break the ongoing marriage (and the marriage anyhow would not be valid since the first husband is not dead).

Raja ki Aayegi Barat - the truth comes out now

It was an interesting time on Raka ki Aayegi Barat on Star Plus. The serial, set in an heritage mansion, deals with a family who were the earlier rulers of the region, and still command a lot of wealth and respect. There was a lot of tension about the elder son, Yudhisthir marrying a common girl, Rani. Compounded by the fact his step-mother, the Choti Rani, wanted her son, Rudra (not as capable as the elder son) to become the king.
And then entered a new actor into the scene, with the entry of the niece, Princess Nandini. She is in the palace with evil intentions, but as usual, nobody suspects her of thinking of doing anything wrong. She is upto all sorts of deeds, with trying to kidnap Prince Yudhisthir on his coronation day, and continually poisoning the Raja (Pankaj Dheer). The Raja eventually dies, and Rani finds poison. The post-mortem also reveals that the Raja was murdered, and Yudhisthir is furious.
Rudra is suspected, and he reveals the hand of Choti Rani in the conspiracy behind the kidnapping of Yudhisthir so that Rudra could become the kind. Yudhisthir furious, and threatens to shoot Choti Rani, and is about to do so, when Rani comes in the way and saves Choti Rani. In the trial of Rudra and Choti Rani for the murder of Raja, they are saved at the last minute when Rani finds evidence that it was actually Nandini who was behind the whole effort and the murder. Now things are settling back in the palace, with Rudra and Choti Rani absolved of the murder.

Balika Vadhu - Sugna's torture continues

I was having a discussion with some friends about why serials such as Balika Vadhu, depicting such social problems and evils are continued to be shown, and while most people don't care about the social message and are interested in the drama of the story, there were some who cared that such injustices and tortures must still be happening to women in sections of our country, and there is nothing wrong in depicting such problems.
After the horrific death of Pratap in an encounter with dacoits, everybody shocked and cannot comprehend as to what is happening. What this also means is that Sugna is now a young widow, in a society that considers a woman to be incomplete without a man; and hence she has to bear the problems that go with it. There are many traumatic rituals that go along with being a widow, and Sugna has to go through all of them, including shunning all sorts of color, living away from the others in a separate dark room, eating frugal means and avoiding all pleasure.
The serial shows the problems that this causes, as for example, she is in pain and hence wants to undergo such a plain life, but still, she is also a human being and has desires, as shown in the episode where she is in the kitchen for getting some raw rice and sees a sweet on the stove (and sweets and other such dishes are totally banned for her). In addition, her inlaws are blaming her for being the dark cloud that caused the death of Pratap, their young son, and are not willing to let her live with them. If they blame her for the death, then it would be madness to send Sugna to live with them since then she would have to undergo torture and taunts all the time. At this time, Kalyani takes a decision that Sugna will not go, that she will not let her grand-daughter go to such a hell.

Tragedy in Balika Vadhu - Pratap dies, and Sugna becomes a widow

Balika Vadhu specializes in showing the tragedies of life, concentrating on social ills that are prevalent in society and are accepted (and which we need to put a stop to). So, you have a household in rural Rajasthan, where there are all sorts of unacceptable social problems such as child marriage, shunning of widows, high interest rates, the subjugation of the parents of brides, and so on. In this case, the major perpetrator is the matriarch of the house, the grandmother who has her own old beliefs and rules the house with an iron hand.
So, when she essentially bought the young girl, Gehna, as the bride for her elder son, she also sought to implement her iron rule on Gehna, and Gehna would rebel frequently, being crushed every time. However, Gahna suffered majorly when she found out that she was pregnant; in spite of being told by doctors that it was unsafe for her to give birth to a baby, there was very little chance that she would be able to do as she wished. In the end, her parents were called, told that they would have to suffer for the rebellion of their daughter, and finally Gehna surrendered.
The serial is very clear that it wishes to show ill-practices happening, and is willing to show as much pain as possible in order to showcase what it wants to show. In order to drive home the point that child marriage and marriage at a young age, combined with other social ills, are major problems that society should depict, it takes the 'gauna' (departure of the young bride finally to her in-laws house when she reached maturity) of Sugna to drive this message home. So, after showcasing the pomp and show of the 'gauna' ceremony (although it shows the pain of the parents of the daughter-in-law of the house in having to even sell off their land so that they can give appropriate presents at the ceremony), the show reverts back to its theme. The young son-in-law is killed by dacoits while coming to the house, and for sure, Sugna will be shown as a young widow, to be treated as badly as any other widow. Maybe this is being shown to drive home the concept that it is only when somebody of the family becomes a widow do you realize the pain that these abhorrent social practices cause.

Kayamath - the 5 year transition

Kayamath is the story of Prachi, who goes through a lot of struggle in her life, eventually settling in life with Milind, after initially being fully in love with Neev (but a series of happenings causes this initial love to break apart). With her marriage to Milind, she is fully in love with Milind, but the main objective of the serial is to make her cry almost every episode (it has happened in almost every episode that there will be something that will make Prachi cry, whether that will be tears of happiness or of pain).
The biggest problem for Prachi was her rival Ayesha, who tried again and again to get Prachi out of the way and marry Milind. She was almost successful a couple of times, but each time the love between Prachi and Milind overcame these challenges, and both Milind and Prachi came together again. The last time this happened was due to Milind losing his memory, and Ayesha taking advantage of this fact in order to come close to Milind again. With a lot of tears, Prachi managed to fight her way with Milind again.
But it was the arrival of Mallika which turned things the other way. Malika, a business associate of Milind was in passionate about Milind, and managed to get rid of Prachi from the scene. In a fight, she managed to overcome Ayesha and kill her in a way that Milind would be the main accused. When Prachi found about Malika's truth, she was told that Milind would be jailed unless Prachi went away from his life; and you could guess what happened next. Prachi left after Milind was freed from jail, and then landed up in a train that got hit by a bomb blast. It seemed to Milind that Prachi was killed, instead Prachi took the shape of Panchi, the wife of a Bengali guy (Panchi was killed in the attack), and landed up at his house. The serial is now set 5 years in the future, where Panchi lives in the Bengali house, and suddenly Milind is now in the house, having saved Panchi's husbands life in a storm. What will happen next ?

Kasturi - Mausi is the bad one

It is real fun how things keep on happening in Indian TV serials (and how they keep on copying each other). So, from a time when Kasturi was in the bad books of Robbie because she had blamed him for Raunaq's death and vowed to take revenge (and as a part of the anger that Robbie felt, he had got engaged to Anita (who was actually plotting against Robbie and was in cahoots with Raunak)) (did you not see something similar to this happening in 'Kahin to Hoga'), to the point where she learns that Raunak was alive, and this was all a plan by Raunak to get hold of Robbie's wealth.
Well, soon things start to change away from Raunak's and Anita's favor; inspite of the best efforts of these 2 (and Mausi supporting them), Robbie soon starts to get the old feelings for Kasturi again. He breaks off his engagement with Anita, and moves closer to Kasturi (but Raunak has re-emerged on the screen in terms of trying to break the things between Robbie and Kasturi).
Raunak is torturing Kasturi a lot while pretending to be ill and bed-ridden to others, and Robbie can only watch when this is happening. Eventually, Raunak and Anita decide that they have to get rid of Kasturi, and they decide to try and kill her (Raunak has already made a number of people believe that she is mad). However, Robbie also reaches there, and it is believed that Robbie was guilty of shooting her. The police get involved, Kasturi's parents are also very angry and tell a lot of things to Robbie's parents.
And then they find Kasturi, she is in a ashram and has reverted back to a child like mental state (remember Saat Phere, anyone ?). Soon, Raunak decides that she has to go, but this time he is caught along with Anita. Mausi also abandons them, and Raunak is really angry at this, but is unable to do anything. Mausi is still planning, scheming, how to get Devika's and Robbie's wealth. And so the serial moves on, with newer villains (and maybe some element of black magic getting added).

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii - the murder mystery

Balaji serials have the unique ability to spin a murder mystery into a long and complicated hunt with one common characteristic - at one point, all the characters have become suspected of the murder before they are one after the other proved innocent. And so it is starting to happen in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. Consider the scenario.
The wayward daughter of the house, Tanu, becomes more and more rebellious, and soon after the real life case of the Arushi murder case, the serial starts advertising her death in a similar manner. After much public criticism, the serial denied that it wanted to cash in on the Arushi murder case.
However, soon after, Tanu starts becoming even more confrontational, not caring about whom she is speaking to. She even starts learning secrets of the others in the family and threatening them with their secrets. Soon after that, she is found murdered, poisoned by a chemical. Her friend was suspected of the murder, but soon after that, her friend is also found murdered. And Om Agarwal is suspected of the murder on the basis of some evidence (the evidence seems to be incredibly light, and seemingly with no actual proof).
The complication in this is that Tanu's friend who was also found murdered, was the son of Aditya; which was a separate story. Aditya was a person from England who seemingly saved Parvati from being accused of adultery, and became very trusted. So trusted in fact, that he managed to easily deceive Om into transferring the entire business over to Aditya, leaving the Agarwals in so much penury that they could not even afford to spend the Rs. 4 lakh plus for an operation (although Rs. 4 lakh is a very high amount to spend for an operation).

Teen Bahuraniyan - moving into the ghost zone

This typically has not been seen before. There are not that many prime time serials in the past that have brought in a ghost / spirit into a hindi serial that appears on real time, but Teen Bahuraniyan on Zee TV has done that now (maybe their TRP's were going down). Other serials in the past have used the concept of a ghost, but have later explained this as the tactic of someone to scare another person, or to get them to reveal the truth.
In Teen Bahuraniyan, the spirit is of Kaajal, and she appears to possess Bindiya (who has otherwise been shown to be a very sweet but also the least intelligent among the bahus of the house). So, Kaajal suddenly would take over Bindiya, with the objective of defeating her own sister, Payal, who has just entered the house as a new bahu. Of course, in the serial, the expectation is that everybody in the house will believe Bindiya when she makes all sort of allegations against Payal (maybe because she has been a member of the household for a long time).
The only time when you can be sure about Bindiya still surviving her independent spirit is when a mandir or some puja is involved, in which case Kaajal has to leave Bindiya, and then the Bindiya who comes back cannot understand what all is happening. And of course, other people in the house are not able to understand either.

Ghar Ki Laxmi Betiyaan - The end of Bhavishya ?

Many months ago, Saraswati was shown as having got married to Bhavishya, the worst time of her life. He caused immense torture to her, and then tried to burn her. She finally got out this problem, and Bhavishya was diagnosed as being mentally ill and sent to a mental hospital.
And then the rule of the doubles came in; Durga met a young man who looked exactly like Bhavishya. The family was very suspicious of this new person, but slowly everybody (and hesitantly Sawaswati) got over the whole worry and accepted him. He married Durga, and things seemed to be fine. He was actually genuine, and then Bhavishya, having got out of the hospital in some way, kidnapped this guy and took his place. And then he started plotting again.
He started drugging Durga, and had more plans to cause problems to the rest of the family. He also caused immense tensions between Durga and Saraswati, and eventually for Saraswati to be declared as mad and sent off to a hospital. But now his game seemed to be up; both Karan and Lakshmi realized his truth and plotted as to how to expose him. And eventually, the sisters and Savitri cornered him, and burned him to death (not good, you should never show using murder for any kind of revenge; it is illegal and gives essentially wrong advice to people).

Banoo Main Teri Dulhann update

A short update, Sindoora is upto her usual tactics, she wanted to get Amar out of the house and she achieved that. However, this is not enough; ever since she saw Amar, she recognized Sagar's face and the prophecy about his coming back, and is ready to kill Amar. One attempt failed, and she actually shot her man who failed to do what she wanted to do, but the second attempt seems to be successful.
The unsuspecting Amar is buried alive, and in his struggle, Divya feels Amar to be in trouble and prays that he be alright and get out of any trouble that he may be in. When Amar is struggling, a passing taxi-driver hears some of the commotion, and when he comes closer, he hears the noise of somebody struggling. Any normal guy would get spooked, with the noise seeming to come from under the ground, but he instantly (a bit surprising) recognizes that somebody is buried alive and helps Amar to come out of the coffin in which he has been buried. Amar has almost collapsed by that time, and is rescued in the nick of time. The taxi-driver recognizes Amar.

Banoo Main Teri Dulhan

The serial is slowly moving in circles, with an elongated version of a love story between Divya and Amar. After their previous time in Benaras, when Divya left abruptly to honor her promise to Bindiya, they are slowly realizing that they are in love with each other. However, Divya thinks that she cannot marry Amar and hence agrees to marry Samrat, who in the meantime has made another girl pregnant (strange stories being spun around each character).
Amar has come to search for Divya, while Sindoora is on the lookout for figuring out what is going to happen; ever since she saw Divya and saw the same face as Vidya (whom she had killed), she was waiting for the emergence of Sagar in the form of a new person and then she saw Amar.
Now Amar is in the same house as Divya and Sindoora, and Sindoora has co-opted Chandra to help her in framing Amar in something as simple as a theft and getting rid of him. As soon she sees Amar, she remembers both the words of the priest that she will be defeated by these very people, and also remember the words of the dying Sagar that he will come back some day.
Right now, in order to elongate the serial, both Divya and Amar have been shown as missing each other a lot, and even though they are both in the same house (Amar in the form of a waiter), they miss each other by the barest amount; once they were actually back to back. Amar also remembers things in the house, while he should have no knowledge of the place since in this life, he has not been in this house.

Banoo Main Teri Dulhann - Sindoora gets to know about them

Finally the serial seems to be moving with a bit of speed. After the death of Sagar and Vidya at the hands of Sindoora, she must have felt that everything is all right. However, she would not have counted on the hands of reincarnation (anyhow, other serials such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki have taken 20 years to get revenge, so coming back in a new birth to take revenge falls in the same time frame).
So Sagar (now Amar) and Vidya (now Divya; in a more glamorous role - short skirts and attitude as opposed to her previous traditional bahu attire) are grown up and already meet in Benaras. They were initially opposed to each other, but soon started warming to each other and are now close to each other (especially when you share a lot of pain, being chased by rioters and having to depend on each other for saving your life).
They are also starting to remember things about their previous life, whether it be cooking kheer, or some temples and routes in Benaras, and are slowly starting to get flashbacks of their previous life, although without faces being clear. However, trouble will start chasing them soon in the form of Sindoora. She has already met Divya, and is very suspicious about her face resembling Vidya. And now when she tries to contact Divya in Benaras, Amar picks up the phone and Sindoora is shocked to hear Sagar's voice (actually Amar). Now the suspicion of Sindoora is clearly on these 2, and one waits to see how they will escape.

Kumkum - Reincarnation again

Kumkum - Ek Pyaara Sa Bandhan has taken a turn, no doubt inspired by Banoo Main Teri Dulhan. So, seeing as the story of Sumit and Kumkum had taken all turns, including many years leap, the creators of the serial made the serial take a new twist. So, when Sumit (Hussain Kuwajerwala) and Kumkum (Juhi Parmar), full of their love and bonding decide to visit a shrine to renew their marriage vows, and take the pheras again. The objective being that doing this will bind them in love for the next 7 lives. However, they still have to reckon with Pulkit who is after Kumkum. He follows them, and accidentally shoots Kumkum. Grief-stricken, Sumit also kills himself. The family cannot believe as to what has happened, and consult the wise sage to figure out what has happened. He reassures them that they will come back to earth in a new form, but in different families, and not in the same family.
And so it happens, with them coming back to different families; times moves quickly and they meet when young (where Sumit's father is setting up a food court that will affect a shop owned by Kumkum's father). Things will move from here, with the attention having moved away from the Wadhwa household. There is now very little attention on the children or other family members of Kumkum and Sumit from their previous life.

A video of the serial from 10th March

Banoo Main Teri Dulhan on Zee at 8 PM

When last seen, this serial was thought of reaching a strange conclusion with Sagar and Vidya both having been killed by Sindhura. However, this is now a story of reincarnation. Both Vidya and Sagar are destined to come back to this world with the same faces, new identities. And the concept would be that they would meet, and ultimately get Sindoora's guilt proven. So, the story moves on.
The 21 years after Vidya's and Sagar's death pass by in a flash, and soon a Vidya lookalike, Divya comes onto the scene. Given that this is a reincarnation, it is quite natural that everybody will start converging onto the same place; so Divya is born as a modern girl whom Samraat has started loving. When Divya brings her to the house as a guest, everybody is astonished since she looks exactly like Vidya.
Divya is very confused with all this attention that she is getting from people in the household and even outside who keep on calling her Vidya. Eventually she asks as to who is Vidya. Sandhoora is not happy with all this that is going on.
And then the movement towards meeting of Divya and Amar (the reincarnated version of Vidya). Amar is now loving in Benaras, and so it is but natural that Divya has to come to Benaras. And they meet, Divya initially having some strong words with Amar, although he is now somewhat getting fond of her; she however still feels strongly about having been forced to apologize to him. And so, it goes on.

Update on Teen Bahuraniyan on Zee

Teen Bahuraniyan on Zee weekdays at 10:30 has been going through some strange events. For a TV serial, things have been changing a lot; must be easy being able to modify whatever you want from day to day in order to prolong the story. Anyhow, nobody could have predicted the story that the serial would take just a few weeks before.
The serial makers must have had some issues with the actress playing Manjeet (Manva Naik) since they decided to make her character suddenly vanish. So, in a short span, it was declared that first Manjeet saved Koki from getting kicked out of the house, and this totally turned Koki. Koki was now much more closer to Manjeet because of her actions, and seemed to turn a new leaf.
And then the bombshell. There was talk of a medical report, and it soon became clear that now Manjeet had a very severe form of cancer and the disease is in a terminal stage. The whole family is horror-struck, and especially Koki. Equally horror struck is Mahesh Gheewala (Prashant Chaddha), her husband. And then she dies soon after. The whole family is now in grief at the sudden departure.
However, things do not change suddenly in the household. When Bindiya wants to overcome her grief, her husband Rohit suggests her going to the office along with him in order to change her mind. Indu leaves no chance to try and taunt her or provoke Bindiya's mother with some words, but she gets little support.
Additionally, a new story has started where Vrinda's mausi's husband (injured and in a comatic state since the car crash), Sumit is regaining consciousness. He does not even know that his children have died 4 years back, and he is starting to ask for them. Vrinda tells all this to the family so that they know what is going on.

Banoo Main Teri Dulhan - A twist in the story

Seems like Om Shanti Om is the flavour of the season. Banoo Main Teri Dulhan was moving towards a climax for some time, since it seemed that Vidya was getting braver, and ready to face Sindoora in order to protect Sagar. Sagar, on the other hand, was getting closer to the truth, and then finally realized that his eldest sister meant him harm; and so it proved. In fact, he had been facing harm from Sindoora for quite some time.
And then it happened, in a climax that Zee TV is trying to extend for some time, Sindoora finally took action. She shot both Vidya and Sagar, shocking fans of the serial. A number of fans must have expected that once Sindoora's truth is out in front of Sagar, things would come to an end and she would be exposed, but very difficult to expect something like this happening. So both of them are now dead, and the serial is focusing on the changes in the family after this happening.
But, more importantly, the twists in the story are being told through glimpses of the future story. So, it seems like that Sagar and Vidya will take re-birth, meet again and then take revenge on Sindoora, exposing her reality. People were afraid of what would happen to the serial when Sagar learns the truth, but now the serial can get extended for a large number of episodes.

The strange saga of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii

The strange saga of Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii continues. The serial originally had as a center-piece, the goings on in the life of a joint family, with the couple of Om and Parvati Agarwal (Kiran Karmakar and Sakshi Tanwar) respectively being the main driving force behind the family.
And then some time ago, mainly due to some misunderstanding / dispute between Kiran Karmakar and Balaji's producer Ekta Kapoor, the character of Om Agarwal had to die a sudden death in the floods in Gujarat (although this was a murder done by Trishna (Mita Vashisht) due to Om marrying her when he was already married). And then Parvati had to go through a period when she was framed for the murder, and vanishes for 18 years after staging a death in the jail. She then comes back in order to get revenge, and eventually gets revenge on Trishna by getting her to commit to doing the murder in front of the police and taken to jail.
But there was never any doubt that Om was dead; after all, it has been 19-20 years since he has been apparently dead, and there was a funeral organized for him with his own body. And now he is back in the serial when they suddenly see him in Varanasi along with a wife and children. The entire Agarwal family are amazed to see him in the role of Rishab and he does not acknowledge any traces of familiarity. Current speculation is that either he had a memory lapse and built up a new family, or that his current wife is forcing him to play that role for some specific reason.
Of course, it is quite clear that Kiran Karmakar has made his peace with Ekta Kapoor, and hence is back into this prime-time (10 PM) never ending serial. As an aside, if he is indeed Om, then why is Trishna in jail ?

Kahani Ghar Ghar ki: Finally some conclusions

No, it does not mean that the serial will end. A serial, running at the prime time of 10 PM every day on Star Plus, is too hot an item to terminate. Putting a new serial in at this time would be like opening the slot for rivals to try and put something better on Zee or Sony to take advantage. But, if one looks at the serial, this is a good current position to try and bring the serial to an end.
For the past long time, the serial has been moving on the leg of one story, the conflict between Parvati/Janaki (Sakshi Tanwar) and Trishna (Mita Vashist). The current conflict has its roots in a story developing over the past several years in the serial. Parvati and Om (Kiran Karmarkar) had a happy marriage; then they suddenly revealed that Om had to get married due to circumstances to Trishna (she was mentally disturbed) and Om owed many debts to her father.
Then this became known to other house people, including Parvati. Om dies. Parvati, being good and so on, gets Trishna married to the younger brother Kamal. It slowly becomes clear that Trishna had got Om killed, and she manages to manipulate things such that people in the household believe (incredible thing) that Parvati had a hand in the killing of Om.
Cut to 18 years later in a time leap. Parvati is believed dead, and Trishna has taken control of the house, crushing the spirits of everyone in the house. Kamal is a drunkard. Parvati re-enters in the form of Janaki (along with Aruna Irani as her mentor - they really try to play the theme of Krishna/ Arjuna and the Mahabharat/ Gita with the concept of fighting against her own relatives and defeating Trishna). No specific source is shown for Janaki's wealth.
And here is the tussle, rather than go in for a facial surgery and change of character as every other K serial seems to be doing, Janaki sports the same face as Parvati, causing immense confusion amongst everyone. She plays an arrogant rich women to whom Trishna is beholden, while at the same time pretending to be uncaring of everything Trishna does against her relatives. Of course, she is still a good daughter-in-law, so she manages to always help them against Trishna.
And then the climax. For some time, I was actually enjoying the serial where there was this confrontation going on, and knew that this could be stretched on for another year or so, and then suddenly there was this episode on Friday where Parvati's daughter confronts her with a gun (accusing her of trying to provoke her son away), and Trishna is watching, content to let mother and daughter kill each other. A shot goes off, light goes off, and Tina Pareikh (Shruti - Parvati's daughter) is on the floor with a buller wound in the abdomen, sure to die. And then, Trishna, apparently not having heard of sting shows, speaks her mind to Parvati/Janaki, admitting every crime that she did and claiming that Parvati cannot do a thing.
Well, as you watch the expression on Parvati's face, you know that there must be a TV camera somewhere, and sure enough there is a TV suddenly popping up, showing off the confession. Dutifully, the lights come on, the entire family troops in, and Shruti gets up. After a few slaps from assorted people to Trishna, the police lead her away. Now, if only the serial makers consider this a good conclusion and terminate the serial soon after, but we all know that this will not happen ...
