In Jyoti, there are 2 separate tracks going on with the 2 men in Jyoti's life, one being Pankaj who kicked her out of his life and refused to accept that the child she was carrying was his. And as a part of this, he has now learnt from Brij that whatever he had learnt in the past was all false, and that the child that Jyoti is carrying is his. And he is now determined to do whatever it takes to get the forthcoming child back to him, to the extent that he is now willing to even reply back to his Choti Man. He is consulting with his lawyer to determine the best possible method for this, and this could even including marrying Jyoti to ensure that the child remains with him. For this, he is willing to divorce his wife Neelam (since it has now become clear that relations between the 2 of them are not so cordial, including when he caught Neelam with somebody else and learnt that she does not really consider him a husband).
On the other hand, Jyoti has been battling with her feelings for Kabir, since her friendship with him has been very strong - he seems a perfectly understanding and no-pretences guy who also seems to be a very good friend. And he has made it very clear that he wants to marry her and will prove to be a good dad for her future child even when the child is not his. It is only when he is leaving that she realizes that she does not want him to leave and chases his to the train station where like a filmy end, it seems that he has left, and when she turns, she sees him. Padma is not happy at this, but others in her family support her; when Pankaj learns about his, he is very angry and wants to do anything that will prevent control of the child from going to somebody else.

Hindi TV Serial - Jyoti - How can everything suddenly turn good all of a sudden
Jyoti suddenly saw a major transformation. Till now, the people in the house were looking at her with some amount of criticism again (except for her father who always supports her); however, her condition in terms of pregnancy suddenly turned bad and she had to be rushed to the hospital. At that point, except probably for Poonam, her other family members realized that maybe they were being too hard on Jyoti and she was in hospital partly because of them and start feeling all protective and affectionate towards her. Deepu was feeling negative towards her, and then starts feeling protective towards her, and even scolds some nurses who were seeing Jyoti pregnant, and no signs of marriage and no signs of any husband or person from the husband's family.
And in something that makes you wonder about the logic being used in such serials, Sushma meets Brij (the new, TB afflicted, on his last stages, reformed person) and believes that he is indeed reformed, and even agrees to restart a family with him. When Jyoti is back from the hospital, Sushma also gets Brij there (coughing away to glory, does no one worry about the chances of the TB having a negative effect on the 2 pregnant ladies - Jyoti and Sushma ?). Anyhow, Jyoti is back to her self, with the prospect of Brij and Sushma getting together, Jyoti is even ready to convince the couple who were going to adopt the child (and how will Brij and Sushma survive?).
There is general agreement that Brij and Sushma should be married, and plans are afoot to start the planning for this marriage with a caveat that Jyoti will need to take care of herself and not exert herself too much.
On the other side, Pankaj really does not seem to get along too well with Neelam, and refuses to go with her to her parties where he feels out of place and is not able to mix in those type of parties. Neelam accuses him of not letting Jyoti go from his mind.

Hindi TV Serial - Jyoti - Brij sick, wants forgiveness and chance to get together with his baby; Deeptu to continue with his job
Jyoti is a strong personality, but there are always issues where she is getting in conflict with her family members, except for her father KK, who believes that Jyoti will always do right. However, the other family members are again somewhat hesitant with what Jyoti is doing. For example, her friend Kabir had earned some support by saving Sushma from a truck, but then came in for problems when he brought Brij to the house (since Brij was his friend), and Brij is somebody that nobody in the house will support because of the way that he treated Sushma.
Jyoti wants to understand more about this Brij connection, but really does not want to meet him. She does not know about the background as to Brij seemingly getting reformed (something that happened because Brij has been diagnosed with TB, to a level that is incurable, and hence does not have too much time left (have they ever worried about whether he is infectious, and meeting 2 pregnant ladies - Jyoti and Sushma, both of whom should worry about infection)). Jyoti meets him because of Kabir, but is not really confident that he has changed; and when she informs him that Sushma has agreed to give the kid to a rich family because she is not sure whether she will be able to give a good future to her child; Brij does not like (although he is no position about to like or dislike since he had harassed Sushma and abandoned her).
In the house meantime, Padma was not happy with the prospect of Deepu working with his father-in-law but was eventually persuaded by Poonam, with Poonam using the concept of Deepu working and earning so that all of them would be less dependent on Jyoti for all their needs (and this is something that seems to work for all them, since they really do not like to be dependent on Jyoti).
And Brij tries to reach Pankaj's house, but Bhairavi stops him at the gate through the guards that are there, and when he tries to force him way inside, the guards beat him up; although he is able to call out to Pankaj.

Hindi TV Serial - Jyoti on Imagine TV - Kabir saves Sushma's life and gets a much better reaction in the house
The last time Kabir was with Jyoti, there was widespread opposition within the Sharma household to him, especially since because of the curfew, Jyoti was out the whole night with Kabir; as a result, Kabir had to listen to things from various people in the Sharma household, and even Jyoti had somewhat cooled off on Kabir and told him to keep some distance from her on a personal nature, even though they would work together on the dance troupe. However, everything changes when Sushma is depressed, and wandering outside.
Her parents and family are not able to contact Sushma, and are worried about her. She is in the path of a truck, when Kabir saves her from the truck, and brings her back home. And to the contrast last time, this time everybody wants to hear the story, and when they find out that Kabir had saved Sushma, he becomes the hero, welcome in the house, and even invited for food. Padma also sees that Kabir may be able to help Deepu get a job, and thus have to avoid working for his father-in-law, even though KK has no issues with Deepu working for his father-in-law.
Sudha is still passing on communication between Jyoti and Pankaj, even though they are now divorced, and Pankaj is married to somebody else (after having turned out Jyoti from his house). When Pankaj hears that Kabir is there, he does get jealous.
On the other hand, Brij is at home, depressed and angry. He is liable to scream at people, although he is also getting it back from various people at whom he screams, including a young mother who tells Brij that he will die without a family if he does not mend his ways.

Hindi Serial - Jyoti - At Pankaj's wedding, Jyoti ends up on stage doing a dance, embarrassing for her
For Jyoti, the occasion of the wedding of Pankaj, her former husband, was a time of great grief; even more so because she was turned out from her married home due to allegations of bad character, even more so because her husband also refused to believe her. He was able to do this because Jyoti had also hid the fact of her sister Sushma and her husband Brij (somebody who Jyoti used to love in the past).
However, all that was in the past. Now, Jyoti is moving on, although she still considers that time period as a painful one. She is an expecting mother, and also moved back to her dancing experience. It is here that she meets Kabir, who the serial is moving up as a prospective romantic lead opposite her, although a number of viewers would still like her to get back to Pankaj (who is now getting married to somebody else).
Now, at the actual wedding, Jyoti has to be there as Kabir has taken on the contract of providing the festivities at the occasion of Pankaj's marriage, since he was not aware of this background. Once he got to know, it was too late. Bhairavi decided to not leave such a chance once she saw Jyoti over there, and invited her from the stage as an expert dancer, to dance for the happy occasion of the wedding of Pankaj and Neelam. Jyoti at first refused, but later agreed, even though she knew that Bhairavi was inviting her for the dance to embarrass her.
However, give that Jyoti is pregnant, doing the dance is not recommended for her, and so it happened during the dance. But Pankaj remains disturbed by all this.

Jyoti on NDTV Imagine - finally standing tall and refusing to bend down any more
For some time now, the show called Jyoti has been showing Jyoti as bending in front of different pressures, although she stands up for what she believes is right (so she stands up for her sister Sushma against Sushma's husband Brij, even though Brij has been ill-treating Sushma). She takes a lot of pressure in her inlaws family for this, especially for the Choti Ma (called CM) of the household, who believes that Jyoti has been neglecting her husband (who is visually handicapped). Things reach a point of no turn when Brij convinces Jyoti's husband that Jyoti had been seeing Brij on the sly, and he should not depend on Jyoti. This is enough to convince all that the relationship with Jyoti needs to be ended, even though Jyoti is now pregnant.
For some time more, Jyoti takes all this with pain, not really fighting back; but now they are showing her to be fighting back much more vehemently - she for example stands up for her rights at the time of the marriage of her brother even though CM, who is going to be at the wedding, asks Jyoti not to come. She replies back strongly to CM, tells her that she is not going to take any more shit from her, and even gets the support of Uday (who is from her inlaws family, and is also her brother-in-law (sister's husband)).
And then when the time comes for her to sign the divorce papers, she refuses since she states that she will now only support the truth, and the truth is that the divorce affidavit has a wrong statement, and she will not support that wrong statement.

Jyoti - Here’s to a fresh start! (NDTV Imagine)
A visually challenged individual Pankaj, marries a ‘normal’ girl from a middle-middle class family Jyoti and sets off on a new journey of discovering love, romance, faith and togetherness. Much had been expected from this unusual pair. As individuals they inhabited two different worlds-while Pankaj belonged to a very rich family, Jyoti came from the other end of the spectrum. Their upbringing, their environment, their sense of priority, all these were vastly different. But in terms of core values, it would be difficult to find two people who resembled each other so closely. Both Pankaj and Jyoti are fiercely independent, principled, caring, honest, down-to-earth and dutiful individuals.
Pankaj came into Jyoti’s life when she needed a friend more than a lover. He became a confidante and slowly their love blossomed. Their feelings for each other were not born out of heady first sight attractions. Instead they were nurtured carefully by Pankaj’s tremendous patience and love and Jyoti’s immense respect and sense of fairness. At the time of marrying Pankaj she had a deep-rooted respect for him, but within a very short span of time, she fell in love with him and surrendered herself completely to him.
Things were going smoothly for the pair till such time that Jyoti’s revenge-seeking and diabolical ex-boyfriend Brij, decided to play havoc in their lives. Soon he had rocked the foundations of this lovely relationship. Brij planted seeds of jealousy and doubt in Panakj’s mind regarding Jyoti. He forced Pankaj into believing that Jyoti had married this visually challenged individual only for his money and had carried on a clandestine affair with her ex lover behind his back. Pankaj’s ego could not swallow the notion that his wife had a past and that he might have been her second choice. He throws her out of the house and refuses to accept Jyoti’s unborn child as his own.
Unlike most soap heroines, Jyoti does not go pleading and begging for forgiveness and understanding. She tries to make her husband see sense, tries to talk to him but when everything fails; she does not hesitate to sign the divorce papers. To begin life afresh takes a lot of courage and Jyoti is indeed very courageous. She does not wish to compromise on her self respect and is willing to let go of a relationship in which she has lost her husband’s trust. Many women would have gone back for the sake of the unborn child, or asked for a huge alimony; Jyoti refuses both the options. Pankja will soon marry again and Jyoti will try to carve out a niche for her dance school. But if their paths were to cross again, will Jyoti accept Pankaj into her life and will Pankaj have the guts to admit that he had judged poorly?

Jyoti - Time to make up your mind, strong woman or weak one.
The makers of NDTV Imagine’s Jyoti ought to make up their mind and that too pretty quickly. It seems that the powers that be are undecided about the way they want to position their lead character-Jyoti. It seems they want to project her as a strong independent woman who has a mind of her own and yet for some inexplicable reason they are forever limiting her horizon. Initially when the show was in its nascent stage, Jyoti was projected as the sole bread earner of her family and as such she was fiercely independent, self reliant, practical and dutiful.
Jyoti was conscious of the burden (she never termed it that) of managing a family consisting of an invalid father, an ageing grand mother, an unemployed slightly flighty younger brother and two unmarried sisters. But this did not stop her from dreaming of her own house, her own family, her private love nest (while she was romancing Brij). While in most other serials it is sacrilege to harbour personal dreams and ambitions; Jyoti had no such hang ups or pretensions. She was not selfish just because she had her private dream goals and aspirations. Just as we were getting ready to applaud a very ‘real’ character, the makers changed their positioning of Jyoti.
Dumped by her lover Brij for her younger sister, she is heartbroken. On top of that she receives the news that the woman she has always looked up to as her mother is actually her step-mom. She is devastated. Naturally anyone would be. She has a major break down. That is also acceptable. But to make her take a decision as big as ‘marriage’ with a man she barely knows came across as highly implausible. Jyoti has always been too headstrong and level-headed to need the support of a ‘man’ to begin life afresh. This was the first sign of her weakening.
As of today, Jyoti remains a very confused character. She is strong and yet very weak. She is shown to be honest and yet decides to hide the truth about her past, something that is difficult to digest. She seems to have lost her voice, her grit, her determination. Accused of being unfaithful in her marriage she is thrown out of her marital home. She walks out without muttering a word of protest. Now her husband is set to divorce her and she will give in not because she has been wrongfully maligned and has thus lost faith in her husband; but because she is a dutiful wife and desires her husband’s happiness. Had the show makers shown Jyoti to be a more proactive (as in her earlier version) and taking the decision to divorce her unbelieving husband and moving on in life, it would have given her character far more credibility, respect and strength. As of now she seems like a shadow of her former self-undecided, unwilling to fight and a doormat.

Jyoti and Sushma - brave faces of prime time hindi television
How many times do you get to see a proactive female character in Hindi serial? Not many. And when you get to see two such strong characters in the same serial, you have to say ‘kuddos’ to the writers and makers. The serial in question is NDTV Imagine’s Jyoti. And the female characters are Jyoti and Sushma. Jyoti the eldest child of the family has recently been thrown out of her marital home by her husband, Pankaj Vashisht. He suspects her of having an illicit affair with her ex-lover, Brij, who also happens to be married to her younger sister (Sushma). Enraged and disillusioned he decides to snap off all ties with his wife who he believes has broken his trust.
While Jyoti struggles to come to terms with the enormity of her loss and grief, she comes to realise that she is pregnant with Pankaj’s child. Her parents decide to mediate between husband and wife and visit the Vashisht household to convey the good news to Pankaj and his family. They are confident that upon hearing this news all will be well between the couple. However Pankaj shocks everybody by declining to accept the child as his. Humiliated and insulted, Jyoti’s parents come home and they tell her about Pankaj’s accusation.
Enraged and saddened, Jyoti unlike other heroines, confronts her husband. She is not willing to let her husband get away with such demeaning allegations. She tells him in clear words that the reason Pankaj is so miffed about her past is because it revealed to him that he was her second choice and not her first. Jyoti says that it is difficult for Pankaj’s male ego, to digest the fact that he was his wife’s second option. Pankaj refuses to listen to her and once again throws her out of the office.
On the other hand, Sushma is out to rid her family of the menace called Brij. Unbeknownst to anybody, she hatches a plan to make Brij pay for all his wrongdoings. She somehow convinces him that she wants to give her marriage another shot and is even willing to move to a different city for this. She even steals jewellery in order to prove to Brij, the sincerity of her ideas. As the latter is busy packing, she pours Kerosene oil over herself, as she loudly calls out for help. She makes it sound as if Brij is the perpetrator of the crime. Whether Sushma is able to bring Brij to his knees and deliver him his just dues, remain to be seen. But for the fact that she and her sister, Jyoti, dared to take on their respective husbands in order to protect their dignity is a bold move that deserves to be lauded.

Jyoti - Burning light of woman power
It is rare in television to come across a female character with ‘spunk’. NDTV Imagine’s Jyoti is one such character who is willing to fight against odds in order to maintain her self respect and dignity. She is not a wailing wallflower who laments upon her fate and curses her destiny every time difficulties cross her path. She has the courage to take on problems headfirst and emerge a winner. And on occasions where the odds do manage to defeat her, she has the spirit to learn her lessons and move on.
Dumped by her lover Brij, who to add insult to injury, marries her younger sister, she loses her balance for a while. But she fights back and restores her lost sense of pride when she enthrals a large audience with her dance recital, despite being severely depressed. Upon discovering that the same Brij is ill-treating her sister Sushma, she goes out on a limb to rescue her sister from his evil intentions even as her own family misunderstands her motives. She is not afraid to express her hurt at her step-mother (this bit of family truth had been hidden from her) but is not disrespectful towards her. She is mindful of her duties as the eldest child of her family even in times when the said family has betrayed her faith and love.
She marries a visually challenged character, Pankaj, but is never pitiful in her attitude towards him. Her respect for him as a person is the foundation for her love that happens eventually, gradually and normally. As the eldest daughter-in-law of a powerful family, she has a lot of responsibilities that she fulfils with great élan. However that does not stop her from taking care of the needs of her paternal family and she does so with the help of her own earnings. She does not depend on her husband and his riches to look after her wheelchair-bound father, old grandmother, her step-mother and her siblings. Her complete faith in her own abilities is praise-worthy and something that characters from other serials ought to emulate.
She is right now in the midst of tremendous personal grief. Her loving husband has thrown her out of his life and his house as his judgement has been clouded over by the actions of her erstwhile-lover-turned enemy, Brij. Brij has convinced Pankaj that Jyoti carried on an affair with the former while and in spite of being married to the latter. Humiliated and hurt, Jyoti has returned to her father’s house and has re-embarked on a journey to find her own bearings again. She had managed to gain employment at one place but Pankaj had her thrown out of there as well. Having found this out, she does not run away from him but instead goes on to confront him with such grace. She has just discovered that she is carrying Pankaj’s child. What this new life does to her story remains to be seen. Will this be a new beginning for Pankaj and Jyoti?

Jyoti - issues keep on happening
Even after Jyoti is now married (happily) to Pankaj, there will always be problems in her life, apparently. So, what happens is that though Jyoti had decided to get married to Pankaj, she had not fully accepted him initially, but now seems to have done. However, she is still hiding things from him, in the sense that she has never told him about Sushma, which seems a bit strange thing to do. No matter what the relation with your sister would be like, why would you not tell your husband about this ? No wonder the husband is likely to get angry with her.
In the meantime, there are 2 more stories that are getting played out. One is regarding Jyoti's sister Sudha. Sudha has something strange, a split personality where one half of her is care-free, while the other half is the docile, strangely scared girl. Jyoti, and other people near her have seen both, but are not easily able to connect both these separate personalities; in fact, the person who has fallen in love with her is unable to fully comprehend as to what is happening with the girl he loves.
Sushma is in an even worse condition. Her marriage to Brij now seems to be a mistake, since Brij wants her to go to any extent to make money, forcing her to dance in front of people who ogle at her body and want to have fun with her; in one case, she is forced to give into a stranger. Brij, as a demonstration of his bad nature, now pretends that he has a severe illness, for which Sushma needs to get money from anywhere. She continues to work at dance places and parties, making money while wearing short clothes.

Jyoti - the marriage happens
Jyoti is a serial on NDTV Imagine that takes the life of a girl who is struggling to help all those who depend on her, but who has to face obstacles at many walks of life. After being almost evicted from her house, Jyoti was finally finding happiness, getting married to Pankaj, who is blind, but who is very loving. And she finds more happiness, but you know for sure that something bad will happen later, after all, the serial depends on showing her struggling and still keeping her good faith and nature intact.
Even though she is separated from her family, they find out about her marriage, and all of them decide to go for the marriage other than the mother Padma, and obviously her sister Susham (and Sushma's husband Brij).
So, the family members land up at the marriage, and after some initial struggle with the guards at the gate, they meet Jyoti and also have a good meeting with Pankaj's family members. Of course, there are the usual set of guests at the marriage who can do nothing but gossip, and they are speculating on how Pankaj managed to land such a beautiful girl; and then start speculating on why the family members of the girl were not there at the wedding.
In another coincidence, Sushma and Brij had been hired to perform at the marriage, and they did not know that this was supposed to be Jyoti's wedding. When they see Jyoti at the wedding, they are shocked, and go back. In the end, when Padma is missing not being present at Jyoti's marriage, Sushma calls up (with Brij having drunk, and now being frustrated and drunk), and tries to provoke Padma against Jyoti.

Jyoti about to get married to Pankaj - NDTV Imagine
Jyoti is about to get married to Pankaj, and the serial has showcasing this for quite some time. After Jyoti left her house after feeling that no one in the house wanted her there (and her own step-mother, whom she loved as a mother also seemed to hate her as opposed to her other sister Susham), she went to the Kendra and stayed there for support. This was also the time when she tried to commit suicide after being in depression for some time. She was still very cut off from her family and not in contact.
At the same time, Sushma and Brij were trying to make the most of the situation, with Susham assuring her mother that things will be fine, and at the same time, trying to take Jyoti's position in the dance show. However, things are not totally well between Sushma and Brij, with Sushma seeing the harsher side of Brij, and starting to get scared of his temper, as was seen recently when the club manager was criticizing Sushma for not smiling while giving her performance, and Brij looking on with anger.
Jyoti in the meantime, has agreed to marry Pankaj who plays a blind but loving man in the serial. Even after she is asked repeatedly, she is firm on her determination to marry Pankaj, and things are peaking for the various functions that happen at this stage. Jyoti showed the Mehndi ceremony, and Pankaj was able to understand the various items drawn on Jyoti's hand even though he was blind, something that impressed Jyoti a lot. At the same time, the problems in her house because of lack of an earning member are growing.

Jyoti - the story of a determined and loving girl
NDTV Imagine has been coming out with a number of new shows in order to try and make a mark for itself, and many of these shows are not the saas-bahu or immense wealth shows. Instead, many of these shows are focused on the troubles, aspirations and life of people who are not middle class, or are fairly poor.
Jyoti is one show where it was clear that the focus of the show would be on the struggles of a girl making her own way in life while shouldering the burden of her family. Even the promos of the show showed the same focus. Jyoti is essentially the story of a hard-working and determined girl who keeps on fighting life and carrying on even if life keeps on dealing her hard bows.
Jyoti belongs to a family that is fairly poor, where the father of the family is now disabled and unable to work; as a result she works to maintain her family and ensure that they have a proper education, and even with their limited means, they are able to get on with life. Her mother, whom she considers as her mother, is actually her step-mother and also her real mother's sister who got married to her father after the death of her mother when he already had 2 kids.
Jyoti is the money-getter of the house, and deserving of respect, but her world slowly starts crashing down. First, she is in love with a person, but then discovers that her sister Sushma gets married to this person, Brij. Then her brother shows that he is studying for engineering, but actually does not do so, instead using that money to woo a rich girl. And then her step-mother, whom she considers her real mother, has been making various excuses so that Jyoti's marriage is avoided since the money she gets to the house is needed for running the house.
One day, everything comes crashing down on Jyoti when she returns to the house and discovers that seemingly, she is tolerated in the house because she is the golden goose, but otherwise no one really loves her or respects her. This shocks her and she leaves the house.
